The tour was excellent, even though we managed to get there only for the last half. But what a half! An interesting talk & fabulous samples (and irresistible purchases - ka-ching!) at Pierre Marcolini, followed by a more formal lecture - and more samples from Rococo - at the Millennium Hotel. The chocolate was so fine that despite hours of tasting, no one was so caffeinated that they needed to be peeled off the ceiling: as always with great chocolate, a little went a very long way.
Looking forward to the next 70% event ...

I hope I'm posting this in the right place guys if not you'll know where to move it to. I was lucky enough to go along to the 70% London Chocolate Week tour on Tuesday. What a great day. It was beautiful weather which meant that when we met up in Picadilly everybody was in fine spirits and looking ahead to the tour.

We visited several stores (I won't mention all of them as I'd be here all day). Most were more than welcoming and all offered some free samples. I will say that notable for its lack of organisation and welcome was Charbonell and Walker. I won't be going there again.

However our merry troop were well serviced by L'Artisan Du Chocolat where we tasted some truly wonderful fresh chocolate covered honey(the honey being collected two days earlier from rooftop beehives in London. How romantic is that?). I found the Ecuador milk chocolate with Tonca bean Exquisite.

We also visited Rococo who treated us to some fabulous tasting treats including choclate flavoured with Pink pepper, sea salt, violets and chilli pepper. They were happy to greet us and answered our questions knowledgably and with good humour.

After spending a few hours (and more than a few pounds)in the various shops we moved on to the Piere Marcolini store where we were treated to a semi-tasting and a stimulating and fun lecture by the proprietress. This shop had a chocolate fountain into which you could dip homemade marshmallows. Yummy! As well as some unique and delicious chocolates.

We finished up with a very interesting and educational tasting and lecture by Chantal Coady at the Millenium Hotel followed by a relaxing drink in the hotel bar.

Sorry to blab on so much but I had a great day and met some fun people and learnt a lot more about fine chocolate thanks to 70% and thanks to the shops taking part, let's do it again.

Although Chocolate Week kicked off today, the big day for us at seventypercent will be tomorrow when our official tour gets going. At five and a half hours long it will be a bit of a marathon and we'll cover most of the central locations.

They'll be plenty of reports back and photos from us on Wednesday, but I wonder if anyone else has visited any chocolatiers yet and got a feel for what's going on?
