Thanks everyone. Well...we survived it...Valentine's Day that is. Our goal this year was to get our name out in the Northern Colorado area. I think we did a good job. The article did a lot (several people have recognized us on the street just from that???). We also did a "Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Campaign" providing about 1000 strawberries to local florist shops.

It will be fun to see what the rest of the year has in store....

No, not national - I was referring to your local affiliates. The national news would never cover a local piece like this. And scarcity creates demand. say you double your output but triple the demand. that's the reason carupano sells for over a hundred dollars a lb 8-)

Thanks for the ideas Sebastian. I don't think we are looking for any national coverage at this point. We are so small and do not have the time or kitchen to do more than about double our current output.

I have heard so many stories about companies getting too much press and then they are not able to keep up and fail....I don't want that to happen.

My wife was a producer for NBC for 10 years. If it's press exposure you're after, here's a tidbit you might find useful. Do something a little different (ie, ensure your focus is on high end covuture and make the comparision to wine, for example, or pair your chocolates with wines and have a tasting session. wrap your pieces in the colors of the teams playing in the superbowl. you'll donate 10% of your profits to a local event. you've invited journalism students from a local university in to practice their studies by filming a day in the life of a chocolatier. anything different, really). Next step is to call your local station, tell them you've got what you think is an interesting story of local interest, and indicate you're sending in samples to the producer and anchor, and that you were wondering if it'd be possible to have a crew out so you could share your story. Include a 1 page summary of who you are, what your background is, what makes you so special, and package it nicely and send it off. your chances for having a news crew show up are now very good, especially if you've timed it right such that it's a slow news day.

to be frank, most media is looking for the feel good story that's given to them. they don't want to do investigative journalism (it's time consuming, hard, and you risk upsetting potential advertisers), and if you do a little work around creating the story for them s well as feed them (very important), you've just increased your odds a thousandfold. It doesn't guarantee you air time, but if well done and timed, your odds are really very good.

Well, I just had to tell the world.... Our business is getting its first real press. The Denver Post is doing an article on us for Valentine's Day! They intervied us and took a bunch of photos this week. The article is to run on Feb 8th.

Besides our company, they are also profiling Chocolove of Boulder, CO and Wen Chocolates of Denver, CO.

I will post a link to the article when it comes out.
