Here's a couple of suggestions on the fairtrade search.

Alex Rast mentioned an organic bar by sainsburys on the forum recently. I looked for details on the web and came up with this: 'Sainsbury’s SO organic Fairtrade Santo Domingo Dark Chocolate'. According to Alex it tastes alot like Domori Chacao Absolut and is only 94p/100g! I've not tried it yet but it sounds like it's likely to be the cheapest and greatest tasting fairtrade bar around. Probably only available in the UK though.

Also, I recently tried the Malagasy Mora Mora bar. Their bars are labelled as equitrade rather than fairtrade. I'm not sure exactly what that means but here's a quote from their site:

'Equitably-traded means that we share equitably the added value we generate. We earn international currency and use it to equip Malagasy producers with knowhow and equipment with which to harvest, select and package exciting new flavours.'

Check out their website for more info www.malagasy.co.uk

I personally really like the mora mora bar which is a typically light and fruity madagascan chocolate with a lovely smooth texture. They also produce another bar called Sambirano which is apparently more robust in flavour although I have not tried it yet. Both bars have been reviewed in chocopaedia.

I am surprised to read that Cluizel's single origin bars may be Fair Trade. Anyone know more about this? Which ones? Certified?

Dagoba has a single origin organic and Fair Trade bar. It is called "Milagros" and the beans are from the Peruvian Amazon. This bar is very very good.
"Theo Chocolate Company" out of Seattle, has plain chocolate bars, as well as some flavoured bars. All of their bars are Fair Trade (I am not sure about the organic status of different bars). I have tried their 84% bar, beans from Ghana, and it is intense. More sophisticated (in my opinion) than the 70% Divine bar mentioned in a previous posting. Divine has a better story, Theo has better chocolate!

Dagoba also has powdered cacao that is Fair Trade. The Xocolatl (with chiles and cinnamon) is wonderful and has a good kick.

All of the above are available on Chocosphere.com

I recently tried the Zotter bars whilst on holiday in Austria and thought they were really good (not sure about some of the flavours though). My wife speaks German, so she phoned them and asked if they are sold in England. A nice lady said that they had a distributor in the UK and they could let you know where your nearest stockist is. We havent contacted them so I can't say what sort of response you'll get but if anyone is interested the website is http://www.merchant-europe.co.uk
Let me know if anyone tries them.
Cheers

I've just been looking at some of the threads about organic chocolate on the forum, and came across this one.

Divine Chocolate is definitely NOT, and never has been, organic. According to their FAQ webpage:

"Cocoa is very prone to diseases, which can quickly spread and wipe out huge areas of cocoa production, and in turn seriously endanger the livelihoods of thousands of farmers. Until enough tests have been done on organically approved pesticides in the Ghanaian context, introducing organic cocoa farming is too high a risk to the Ghanaian economy which relies on cocoa."

There's a brand called Divine Chocolate who makes FT organic bars. I've only tried their 70%; the beans are sourced from Ghana, and the chocolate isn't anything impressive. It has a very vanilla and cinnamon flavor with a bit of smokiness which doesn't pair too well, imo. Also, the aftertaste is somewhat bitter and isn't particularly appealing.

woz,

here in germany there are a couple of bars i've found when shopping at the organic food store. one is mentioned and reviewed here on the site. it has 72% and is made by vivani (www.vivani.de?). i find it tastes ok. not complex. and it is really cheap! 99 eurocents! at least here that is.
i can't remember the names of the other bars and haven't tried them yet. one had 85% though. if this interests you further, i could go have a look/taste for you. don't know whether this stuff is available outside of germany.
