I'm really curious about Slitti's darker bars in general, since you probably don't get more enthusiastic responses than Chocophile's review of the 62%. However, since Chocosphere appeared to be out of just about everything when I placed my order a week or so ago, I got the 45% just out of curiosity. I am in no way a milk chocolate fan but I immediately got the sense from the quite-decent 45% that I'd love the higher bars. Has anyone tried that 62%, or even the 73%, both of which I've seen elsewhere and am seriously considering buying?

I'm still loving the fruity chocolate, but I have been wanting to try some darker flavors, like nuts and coffee. Right now when I get a craving for something not as fruity as, say, valrhona, I grab the Gran Saman. It's still slightly fruity, but does has that dark, earthy taste.

The flavors you just described are what I'm actually looking for. To be honest, I need a change from all this fruity chocolate. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but I need a chocolate that doesn't reek of citrus or fruitiness. Perhaps that's why I regard Cluizel's Ilha Toma with such high esteem. However, (and also ironically) I can't get enough of Cluizel's Venezuela 72% and Madagascar 72%. I've been meaning to check out Slitti's 82% for quite a while now, and when I saw that http://www.chocosphere.com carried it, I almost flipped. I have a bar of Slitti 100%, but as I mentioned in another thread, I am reserving that for a special occassion.

I purchased 5 of these bars from Chocosphere a couple of weeks ago, along with a batch of Ampamakia. If you want a shocking example of the huge variety of flavors produced by different fine chocolates, these two would be a good choice. The Slitti is all about rich coffee, almond,licorice, roasty flavors, with a just-barely-there sweetness. Totally different from the Ampamakia. I eventually started to really enjoy it after my initial shock. Kind of expensive at $8/bar, but I could see why people seek out this chocolate.
