I've made an un-scientific guess and assigned everyone to everything, and made sure all forums are covered.

The more active forums have 3 moderators, the less only 2. The chocolatier catagories only have one at the moment, on the hope that someone from that section will volunteer. We'll see how that goes.

It's easy enough to move people around, so just let me know if you'd rather be somewhere else.

Keep in mind some of the forums, like this one, will hardly ever need any attention. They just need someone's name against them for emergency.

That's great, but keep in mind we now have 17 forums, and if we want 2 moderators for each, that's 34 moderator positions, so about 7 each. Like to choose a few more :D .

Unlike many forums, ours is very well behaved, so you shouldn't have to work too hard!

Expertise in a given area is not really a requirement, its more about organisation and looking after members.

As you might have noticed, I've revised the forum structure along the lines we discussed, which are now in a new topic - moved using the new topic splitting mod I've installed.

So it's looking like the new list of moderators will be:

martinc
Montegrano
masur
Eshra
ChemicalMachine

We know alex_h wanted to drop out, and Lone Ly is no longer active.

Now that the structure has been re-organised, there's quite a lot of re-organisation we do. So anyone else who might be interested, please speak up now.

I think a lot of threads could be moved into the new sections, and with the splitting function, topics can be broken up to make a lot more sense. It's a fair amount of work, but posts within and thread can be marked to be moved to a new topic, regardless of whether they are at the beginning, end or middle.

It would also help if we could all identify which areas we'd like to moderate. Two in every forum would be good, three possibly in the larger forums.

The forum appears relatively clean to my eyes. The main problem that I see is a lack of active members and discussion. I have a few ideas for ways to generate more discussion, if anyone is interested I will share them.

I admit that lately I've been quite busy with my outside life, which as a result, has decreased my activity on this site, but I still visit daily to see what's going on. I intervene and post accordingly, in addition to a non-stop process of review-writing. I greatly value this level of connection to the site and to everyone that participates here.

So to answer your question, Martin, I'll definitely continue the moderator position. I love being involved with the site and contributing as much as I can. It's been so much fun during the nearly 4 years (!!!) I've been here; I look forward to being here many more!

Although I am somewhat new here compared to many, I would like to be a moderator.

I visit this site daily and read nearly every post. Even if I do not respond, I am glad to do whatever is necessary to further the development of your site.

So if you cannot find someone who is more qualified than myself, I will be obliged to assist you.

One question: Do you need moderators for individual forums or just moderators in general?

As some of you will have noticed, the list of moderators for this site is rather out of date and needs updating. Some areas of the site only have on active moderator, and it's hard to keep up with what's going on.

In general I think this is an excellent, well behaved community, but there are occaional issues that need sorting out and I think we do tend to wander off topic in many threads, which can make the forum confusing for newcomers and researchers.

Of the current moderators, who wants to carry on with the good work? We 3 or 4 new moderators, so any volunteers from newer members of the community?

Please post here if you are interested, and also this discussion is open to all about how moderation should operate. One expample would be, how long should threads be and how far from the original topic should they go?
