Thanks for the link!

I would really like to know the products sampled for their study, especially since in my experience it's pretty hard to find premium chocolate of any description in the LA area (where they say they collected their samples :-) That, in conjunction with the mention of cocoa powder (which is off-topic for most premium bars), makes me think that this sampling is basically one of mass-market (or, as they say: "popular, readily available") chocolate products.

I do wonder if there would be a substantially different finding with a narrower look at various segments of the chocolate marketplace, especially those closer to the hearts of the seventypercent crowd...hopefully some other pieces of research will be forthcoming.

well, as far as i know they never tested amedei and domori and the like. so i guess you're right, it is a very general statement.
they've listed the chocolates they've tested with their respective levels of cadmium i suppose, but to read this information you have to pay a fee.
i avoided that by having a peek at the print issue at the newsstand when it came out. unfortunately that was a while ago and i don't remember much.
i think they mainly tested german chocolates and few really worth a mention, eg, rausch and vivani.
if i find the info or decide to pay for it i will keep you informed.

Alex, have they actually named the names then? Have you been able to find out more? I mean, it's pretty general statement - fine chocolates have more cadmium.

machine translations aren't the best.
in the part that you are quoting, ellie, they are not talking about the cadmium levels. in this case they are talking about the amount of cocoa solids in each bar tested. the bars listed were those where cocoa content was not exactly as declared.

Interesting, though does not feel enough reseached. Hope i understood correctly, but the chocolates they state as worst, Cote D'Or 86% Cacao Noir-de-Noir, and Viviani Bitter 85% Cacao, I have always presumed to be made from african, not venezielian cocoa.
