I am living my dream. In April I am going to travel across the world tasting and investigating chocolate. Sigh!! As this site seems to be so full of chocolate enthusiasts and experts, I'm hoping that some of you may be able to suggest some great chocolate shops, cocoa plantations, interesting chocolatey people, etc, for me to go see on my way.
I plan to travel overland through Europe to Moscow where I'll take the Trans-Siberian train to Beijing, stopping in Irkutsk and Ulaan Bataar on the way. From there I'm going to head South into Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, New Zealand. At some point I hope to get to India and Madagascar. And, obviously, no chocolate tour would be complete without a visit to South America.
Please, please contact me with suggestions. I want to research the roots of chocolate, covering issues such as slavery and the history of chocolate. I want to meet unusual chocolatey people, such as a man in New Zealand who runs Chocolatetherapy.com. I'm going to be reporting back to The Chocolate Society so I'll be visitng places such as Madagascar, where the cocoa for their Organic bars comes from, and hopefully the elusive Chauo Valley in Venezuala.
Any suggestions.....
