Nice, I had no idea. According to the good people at Assagio di T., they're probably the only shop in Norway stocking Amedei. Would be nice to see more Amedei in Norway in the future.

I suspect Assagio di Toscana used to buy directly from Amedei in Italy.

Assagio di Toscana has put their ordering of Amedei on hold for a while, rumours say Amedei are looking into bigger distribution in Oslo. Shame, because this means the elusive Chuao remains untasted by me, but interesting nonetheless :)

Hello all! This is my first post on this forum. I am basically a complete novice in the finer chocolate department, but lately I've developed a(n un)healthy interest in going beyond the run-of-the-mill grocery store milk chocolates and sampling the finer, purer stuff.

I'm a Norwegian, and I live in Oslo, and this forum has been helpful in letting me know where to look for my chocolate fixes. However, I thought it could be useful to make an own thread collecting all my finds so far, maybe even getting some input and additions from you people.

So far, I've been focusing on the "four greats" (Amedei, Domori, Michel Cluizel and Valrhona), but I've also stumbled across some other brands. Here are my findings so far:

Assaggio di Toscana
This tiny Italian delicacy store in Frognerveien (sandwiched inbetween ICA and Narvesen) is a great find with a nice little selection of Italian meat, sausages and other foodstuffs. As far as I know, it's the only place in Oslo where you can buy Amedei, and they also stock a good selection of Slitti and La Molina. Their Amedei Chuao has been sold out every time I've been there, but they're supposed to get a new batch in the middle of June. Besides Chuao, their selection of Amedei is very limited - the Porcelana has however always been available, and a couple of others.

Majorstuen kaffe og te
An even tinier store in fashionable Bogstadveien. They mainly sell coffee and tea (explains their name), but they have a shelf dedicated to chocolate from Michel Cluizel and Cote d'Or. While the latter isn't all that exciting, the 7-8 Cluizel bars make up for it. The staff doesn't seem to be aware of the fact that they're actually stocking some of the world's finest chocolate, but I was lucky to walk away with a Los Anconès, quite possibly the best bar I've ever tasted (I have high hopes for Amedei Chuao though). I also bought a Mangaro(?), which was nothing special.

Gutta på Haugen
Located in St. Hanshaugen, a lovely area of Oslo, this fairly small and exclusive grocery store holds a midsize selection of Domori, Valrhona, Green & Blacks and a couple of other brands. I've suffered through a few bits of Domori 100% (very far from being my cup of tea), had a Green Tea bar.... can't say Domori's made a lasting impresion so far though. Their milk chocolate is quite good, but I find their dark chocolate to be too "brown" tasting. I haven't really been able to find some of Domori's more exclusive stuff though.

Jacob's på Holtet
I need to revisit this lovely grocery store soon. The first time I was there I was focusing solely on Valrhona, and Jacob's have a very impressive selection. I ended up buying one of just about everything. Costly, but a nice way of getting to know the brand a bit better. After munching through a load of relatively anonymous bars, I found the Manjari, which is probably my favourite Valrhona. Not too spectacular, but a great instant fix with its lovely fruitiness. Of all the other bars I bought, I can't say any of them really stood out - that might be because I had a few too many in a very short span of time, though :-)

There's a dedicated confectionary store at Glasmagasinet in the city centre, but I've found their selection of brands to be underwhelming. They do stock Hachez, which I've yet not tasted, and a few Belgian brands... and possibly Santander (I had a peppered one I think was Santander, and I was very underwhelmed). I need to research this a bit more.

I'd love to get tips on where to look for new chocolate experiences in Oslo, such as El Rey, Pralus, Guittard and others!
