For a long time I have contemplated subscribing to seventypercent’s tasting club, attracted by the idea that I may be able to taste a wider range of bars that I might not otherwise be able to obtain.

Is there anyone here who could tell me what some previous months selections have contained to help me make up my mind? I don’t want anyone to break some code of secrecy so if you’d rather reply by e-mail than on the forum then please do.

Hi Chrissie,

We usually try to make it mix of standard bars, new bars, hard to get items and sometimes we have bars made for us. We also often feature products before they are available in our shop.

Aug-06 Rococo Organic dark 65%, Pralus, Trinidad, Amedei Mono Cru, Greneda

Sep-06 Domori Porcelana, Michel Cluizel Maralumi, Pralus Fortissima

Oct-06 Valrhona Gran Couva 2006, Valrhona Ampamakia 2006, Malagasy Sambirano Grand Cru 2006

Nov-06 Pralus Cuba, Valrhona Manjari 75g bar, Domori Cru Sambirano

Dec-06 Valrhona Araguani 75g bar, Amedei Red, Pralus Bresil

This month (Jan 07) we’re featuring Valrhona Palmira 2006, Valrhona Afrique 85%, Domori Cru Rio Caribe.

The bars come with tasting notes, comparisons and of course our monthly Club newsletter in glorious technicolour, with regular columns, news and a main feature. Where possible the feature is related to the bars. We’re trying to do this more often and in November last year carried a country profile of Cuba and should be doing one on Papua New Guinea very soon, where we hope to include 3 PNG bars.

Thanks for the info Martin,

Got a bit of a stockpile of chocolate built up, went on a mad spree when the new vintages by Valrhona & Malagasy came out and since Pralus has now become available. Got a few tastings already in mind for myself at the moment with the bars I’ve already got so may wait a month or 2 before subscribing to the club, otherwise I won’t know where to start! Like the sound of the PNG profile. Tasting notes will be good too.

I say tasting notes, usually they’re more like little editorials and opinions rather than reviews, which I like to leave to the Chocopaedia and forum, and readers own opinions.

Wow! Do these get shipped everywhere? How are they shipped-in some sort of insulated box? I am very interested. Does it work out much more expensive than if one were to buy these bars at a store?
Thanks!
Ilana

We do ship all over the world. We don’t use any special insulation at the moment, so if you live somewhere very hot it might not be so practical. We rarely have problems though, especially in the UK where we can always dodge roung our erratic weather.

It will always be cheaper to buy the bars online, if you can get them. The subscription includes the newsletter, introductory tasting pack, discounts to events and postage.

Thank you. Well winter time is okay, but summer-forget it! I think it is high time someone gave me a present! I love the idea.
