OfflineI witnessed the UK chocolate masters at the restaurant show (London, Olympia) yesterday. Courageous and exciting event with a photo finish for Mark Tilling (Wow does this guy wake up the chocolate world!……..and he’s a real positive character). He represents the UK against the world in 2008 in Paris. Lets all support Mark and congrat the other 3 competitors who gave everything they had!
……..In my opinion a first class competition with professional organization and judging.
Anybody else attend and have comments??

OfflineThanx for the attachment Masur. Were you there yesterday?
I will also say that what I always preferred; and this is personal choice………. is the surprise factor!
Having a “mystery Box” in the competition is always a correct way to separate a robotic, systematic approach as opposed to the “knowledgeable craftsman with creativity and skill”.

Offline….a fantasticly well organised event by the much maligned Callebaut company…oh, and the judging was out in the open in the view of the public with the final marks scrutinised by an independent adjudicator ensuring no bizarre ‘political’decisions made behind closed doors as so often happens at such events.
I am sure Sebnath will agree that the right man won and with the right training and much practce will ensure the UK is in with every chance of a top-six placing in the worlld final in 2008.

OfflineAbsolutely.
On this day; the right man won.Mark Tilling laid everything on the table. The guy broke down in tears at the end from the release of stress, excitement and honour to represent his country in 2008.
And although other popular chocolate manufacturers gain the “grand cru” quality label I will say Barry Callebeaut has shown an investment in £=pounds towards the development of top UK chocolatiers of the future. As a chocolatier I would offer Mark Tilling 100% support as he prepares to face the rest of the world in 2008.
Anybody else out there think I’m right???Wrong??

OfflineSebnath..
I can only confirm your posting…Some companys talk-the-talk about how they wish to educate and develop public interest in fine chocolate in the UK but however they never seem to show any interest in sponsoring or developing young talent. The bottom line as in any other line of business seems to the only factor…
Well done to Callebaut for their vision and generosity.

OfflineThanks Masur for your web search and Confisuer for your reality check.
FYI:
As a wise and modest chocolate master spoke recently;
“As an independent chocolatier ….I have not sold my soul to any chocolate manufacturing company.”
HOW TRUE!
Point is you have different couvertures for different applications.
