I recently tried some chocs from Xocoa, a spanish maker (www.xocoa-bcn.com). The letter I sent them, which I post below, probably says everything...

Dear Xocoa,

I recently purchased a box of 20 chocolates from your Maremagnum shop. I regret to say that these were a real disappointment.

First, thery were overly sweet, so sweet they almost killed the taste of the chocolates. Half the sugar would be enough.

Second, many of them had a strange after-taste of washing detergent. I don't know it it came from the packing or the production, but it was somewhat annoying.

Third, you have used inferior cocoa beans. This is particularly evident in the darker chocolates, which had the characeteristic harsh after-taste of forastero-beans.

I am sad to say that your product was lots of style, the shop staff was also very friendly - but you failed on the most important thing: Product quality.

I got a reply. The usual talk about "production error". I responded that then the recipe has to be the production error. No more replies. Surprised? Not!

we once tried some couverture from callebaut that really tasted of washing liquid. At the same time BC has a massive recall but still denied that there was anything wrong with the taste...
