I popped into Valvona & Crolla here in Edinburgh(UK) to check out their chocolate selection and found that they have started moulding their own bars.
There was a dark bar labelled Venezuela 70% and a milk 35% bar. The accompanying sign said that these bars were Valrhona chocolate.
I’m a little confused because I thought Araguani was the only Venezuelan Valrhona chocolate and isn’t that 72%?
I bought some anyway, at £2.50 for a 100g bar I thought why not, and it is very good. It definitely appears to be Valrhona with their signature smooth texture and high cocoa butter content. Very chocolatey with no bitterness. Not as fruity as the madagascans, richer than Caraibe in flavour, not quite as strong or bitter as Guanaja but darker than Gran couva.
Does anyone know anything about it or have any ideas?

Was it a mould with squares with deep indents and a cellophane wrapper? If so it’s from Valrhona’s ‘own label’ range, which you can buy and sell as your own branded chocolate. As I remember it, the chocolate wasn’t terribly good, though it may have improved.
As a side note, Paul A Young recently hand moulded some Araguani bars for us for the Club. We hope to have these on sale in the autumn.
