It’s good to see another review by Martin on the site. I’ve never seen this chocolate, so if anyone has a source in the UK, please let me know.

As a newcomer to all this, I’m continually bewildered by differing tastes in chocolate, and how there seems to be no standard of excellence as in an appellation for wine. I read reviews on several sites, contributed by people with an obvious love for proper chocolate and awesome articulation, but they can differ wildly.

Martin was lukewarm about the Rajoles, but other sites have given it top marks. He has yet to comment on the Slitti, which has had some rave reviews, but Alex H, whose opinion I value, thinks is has an artificial taste, a cardinal sin as far as I’m concerned.

Going back to the comparison with wine, another great love, it is quite possible for one person, with a half way decent palate, to dislike a wine another connoisseur thinks excellent, but unusual to find it positively mediocre.

I sometimes feel l’m way out of my league here.

elektra, i haven’t seen martin’s new review, but assume you are talking about rajoles 70% and not the 100. i can’t say i warm to it much, but in comparison to slitti (here we go again…;-) i take mediocre over artificial any day.

the jury still appears to be out on whether slitti uses artificial flavors or no. i am quite interested in this specific debate as i would like to know whether my senses (and my sense) mislead me…

thank you much, kind elektra :-) and i guess we’re all pretty much in a league of our own. “the cutting edge” to put it in martin’s words.

Hi Elektra,

I think you may be able to get it in Harvey Nichols but if not I’m sure there must be other stockists down south. We will be stocking it shortly so if you can’t get it anywhere else we would be more than happy to send you a bar with postage at cost once we get it in…..
I’ll keep you posted.

Tom,

Thanks, I’m definitly interested in an order. Remember, I was the one who wanted to know if you had a website to order from. Can you let me have a list of what you stock? I’m only interested in bars, any size, no additives, and the darker the better.

Cheers,

Elektra

I’ve heard that the cacaobeans comes from the Spanish company Chocovic. Rajoles is not a top bar but I like it.

That’s interesting about Chocovic (I think I knew that but forgot it somewhere along the line). It does seem similar, but the Chocovic origin bars have more interesting notes that make up for the rough edge also present.

i bought some mini rajoles yesterday. these are 12 6g squares of 70% chocolate (with lecithin, vanilla and cocoa butter) and i bought quite a lot because they were on sale.
i’m pretty sure though that the chocolate in these squares is different from the chocolate in the rajoles bars. first, it looks darker and second, it tastes like some cheap dark chocolate.
does anyone know if there is really a difference between the two?

The squears of the chocolate Rajoles are shaped like the street tiles of Barcelona. Hmm.. maybe I have mentioned this before. The chocolate is ok but not top notch.

It would not surprise me if the cacao beans are sourced through Chocovic because they (Chocovic) do actualy provide many chocolateirs with their “source,” as it were.

righto, guys! but do you know of any differences between the mini rajoles and the regular bar?
a friend of mine has tried both and agrees with my assumption.

Have you tried Rovira’s chocolate covered Pop Rocks? His site is currently under construction. It’s about time; maybe it will have some actual information rather then just fancy pictures [:D]

you mean the cola-flavored thingies? yeah, i’ve tried them. kinda neat, but at 7.50 euro a box it’s not something i’ll indulge in.
