Imagine a chocolate bar with the usual harsh forasteros taste. Add extra sweetness because the bar isn’t really 70% as the wrapping says, because the center has only 35%. Add taste of bacon (!) (possibly because of other fats than cocoa butter?). You get Freia premium 70%, which is similar to one from Marabou, I suppose.

Any worse?

Droste Superior 75% isn’t much behind…really harsh forasteros.

The reason I have tried all these awful bars recently is that I got them as a birthday present from my sister. (New shotgun and diving equipment was slightly too expensive…). And then, off course I must try the stuff.

Just got a reply from Freia on my complaint on the Premium. They claim it had aquired taste from the wrapping, due to wrong storage conditions. May be, but I doubt it – after all, I’ve hard that “reason” before![}:)]

They also claimed that the choc was bitter because the beans were bitter and there was so much cocoa in it. Great corporate speak…
I’m tempted to add “yes, because you use bad beans…”. But may be I don’t bother. Some public humiliation here should suffice[8D]

But I should add that they were actually right about the cocoa % – I had misinterpreted the wrapping. Although they have for some reason embedded a low-% in a high-%, the total average was 70%.

Do you mean that you were correct in that the filling was 35% cacao and the exterior was 70% cacao? Did you know it was a filled bar when you bought it?

Anyway, if you want something similar but of better quality, I find that Venchi’s 75% ganache cubottos (Cubotti Cuor di Cacao 75%) are rather nice. I was told that they are now available in bar format in Europe, but I have not seen them (of course) here in the good ole’ US of A. It’s surprisingly strong.

The bar was a kind of laminate of very dark and just slightly dark choc with an average of 70% – no ganache or something.

I second Polarbear’s opinion on this cheap ass dark chocolate launhed because there is so much writing in newpapers and mags about the healthy aspects of dark chocolate.

Looking foreward to try the swedish porcelana chocolate from Maria Escalante and good ol’ Jan Hedh, though.

So two kinds? How strange, but I’ll take your word on the quality. I should acquire a bar somehow and post a review [}:)]
