Hello!

One thing that’s puzzled me a bit is that the amount of carbohydrates can vary a lot between different chocolate bars of the same percentage.
For example we have Marabou 86% here in sweden that consist of 19,5 % carbohydrates, makes sense one would think considering the amount of sugar could not be more then 14 percent and there’s not much starch in the cocoa. But Plamil 87% has about (cannot remember exacly) 35% carbs! Since I noticed I’ve compared on all brands where the nutritional value has been displayed and it differs a lot! Does anyone know why? I mean it would differ a bit since it differs between cocoa powders and also the amount of powder vs fat but not that much one would think!? Almost wonder if there’s more sugar then it “should” be with that high percentage.

Generally I think that more manufacturers should be better at displaying nutritional value on their bars.

They are probably mislabelled. Cocoa contains about 40% carbohydrates.

The cocoa powder I have at home (3 different sorts) all differ between 11 and 15 %. If a chocolate bar is 85% it would mean that 15% is sugar which is almost pure carbohydrates, the rest of the bar should be cocoamass – fat and powder, fat should not contain any carbs. With that in mind and presuming that the powder is of the same strength as the type I have at home it would be about 20-25% carbohydrates, that is why It didn’t make sense to me. I might be wrong here, so please correct me. But I’m thinking that we are both right and the amount of carbs in cocoa can differ that much it would make sense, although strange it can..

Sorry bout the rambling :)
