I’ve tried the Ecuador dark – have got the milk sitting at home and will be trying shortly.
The dark has a superb aroma – archetypal with the blackberry and brown sugar notes, and some hints of coconut. As for the taste it’s got good components – strawberry to start and once again a nicely characteristic molasses/grape. The principal defect, relatively forgivable, is a rather flat earthy finish. Texture is nothing special but not terrible by any means.
Overall, it’s a pretty respectable job. I was favourably impressed. Maybe just short of great, but solidly in the excellent range. Sometime soon I’ll look through my tasting notes and try to identify who they’re sourcing from. Certainly on the Sao Tome I suspect Corallo – does that not seem awfully suspicious? I haven’t tried the bar but the format, so similar to the Pralus Corallo, makes me wonder.
