Hey, I haven’t posted in a while, but I’ve been reading the board and site, and definitely have NOT lost interest in chocolate. Just between the heat of summer and an almost standstill in the search for fine chocolate, I’ve felt out of the loop. I did just discover a new 70% bar by a company called Santander. It’s an origin bar from Colombia, and I’m very impressed. It’s fairly strong in citrus flavors and tastes rather tropical, but not the normal “fruity” flavors at all. Has anybody else seen this bar around? I read somewhere about Colombian chocolate becoming more available, but this is the first one I’ve seen.

Santander also has an espresso chocolate, which I don’t normally buy flavored bars, but I’m in love with coffee, so I couldn’t pass it by. It tastes like a perfect mocha.

I’ve never tried chocolate from Santander. Since they have a Swedish distributor I will try to find a bar. Maybe it could be found in Stockholm.

Just out of curiosity, did you mean that you havn’t tried it because you tend not to like Swedish chocolate, or because Swedish chocolate is not commonly available to you?

We are talking about chocolate from Columbia and I would like to try it. First I need to ask the Swedish distributor where the chocolate can be found.

This is a nice coincidence – I was just looking into Santander. Have you tried any of their other bars bobvilax – I think they have a few varieties, and can you post the ingredients?

This is a list of the bars I’ve heard of:
Santander Milk 36% cacao
Santander Semi-Dark 53% cacao
Santander Dark 65% cacao
Santander Dark 70% cacao
Santander Dark Coffee Bits (Columbian coffebeans) 70% cacao
Santander Dark Espresso Coffee 70% cacao
They use a mixture of Criollo and Trinitario.

I’ve only tried the 70% and the espresso bar, and as said, I really enjoyed them both. As usual the ingredients were the first thing my eyes darted to, and they’re pretty standard for the pure bars, but with the addition of extra cocoa powder. Is that for a richer flavor? I think this bar would make for an exellent 85% or so. They’re certified Kosher, as well.
