New chocolate company, currently in “beta.” Any San Franciscans had the chance to sample these yet? Only available there until February, wondering what the inside scoop is.

Interesting news. A quote from their website:

quote:

TCHO is a direct, transparent connection between the farmers and the consumers, from the pod to the palate, from high concept to sensual experience.

Tcho recently began accepting orders for nationwide delivery. Still just the Ghana bar available.

I finally bit the bullet and ordered some, just to satisfy my curiousity.

My husband asked if there was a spot on their feedback form for “yuck” and I’d have to agree.

Now, to be fair, “chocolatey” is probably my least favorite characteristic in chocolate, since I tend to like fruity and citrusy and acidic chocolates, which is not what they are aiming for with this release.

I’ll post more details when I can bring myself to try another piece. But it doesn’t even smell good.

I just got the chance to browse through an article about Tcho in the journal O Estado do Sao Paulo (March 13 issue) where they present Timothy Childs and most particularly Louis Rossetto, founder of Wired magazine as the owners behind Tcho. He presents a surprising fact: thanks to the internet, they have a chance to maintain contact with cocoa producers at various parts of the world…
The same page has another article about Claudio Corallo’s family. If someone’s in need, I have the pdf of the articles.

I would say “yuk yuk yuk”, drenched in sugar and vanilla with mouldy aftertaste. Worse than well known mass produced brands…

For a sense of the personality behind Tcho, check this out:

It’s all about the hedonics and or-gana-liptics, you know.
