I happen to have a fellow chocoholic girlfriend, and really lifted her expectations on Saturday with a bar of Cluizel’s Los Ancones. But – what a disappointment! The fruity/banana/liquor taste was almost gone – only some acidity and a slightly harsh, bitter taste was left. may be there has been a very bad year on the plantation?

Maybe you experienced the same as me, last time I bought a Los Ancones it was god-awful. I think mine was ruined by heat (bloom), and I’m going to go look for another bar this winter. Hopefully the shop has restocked by then, so I don’t get leftovers from the summer.

No, bloom was not the problem, the choc was nice, although slighly darker colored, perhaps, than usual.
