OfflineYes, we all have those days where a bite or two just doesn’t cut it.
So, my question is this: What is the greatest amount of dark chocolate you all have eaten on a given day? You can give brand names if you want.
I will start it. I have done 250 grams before, which was made up of a Plantations bar, Amedei 70% bar, and 2 25 gram servings of Domori Puertomar.

OfflineI don’t know if this counts, but in one day I consumed nearly 50 Marcolini bonbons, 30 Richart bonbons, 7 from Martine, and various pieces of solid dark chocolate. I did this as part of a tasting and have never repeated such an incident for fear I will suffer the same consequences experienced that day.

OfflineAt a tasting session two years ago I sampled more than 60 different bars/couverture from Valrhona and Domori. That would at least be 250g in one day. Probebly more.

The one that comes to mind right away is the 1 kg El Rey Gran Saman. I’ve also had 1/2 bloc Amedei Chuao. On another occasion I know among other things I had 200g Domori Puro 100% and also some other chocolate, but I can’t remember what or how much except that it was considerably more than the Puro.
There have been plenty of times when also surely I’ve consumed somewhat comparable amounts as confections, cakes, etc. (most of these occasions would also have involved the consumption of at least one 100g dark chocolate bar) but here it’s impossible either to remember or put it into figures. Too many X-factors.
I also made a chocolate bread once which was 70% cocoa powder (for those curious enough the remainder was 15% gluten flour, 15% sugar. IIRC there was about 1000 mL (1 litre) cocoa powder in there – it might have been a little less. Anyway, first sitting I ate 1/2 of the loaf.
One always hopes that the memories of the day after will deter you from future such follies but it never seems to.

OfflineI believe the fatal dose for humans is about 10 kilos of chocolte (though that may be based on lower strength stuff, so it might be less for our kind of chocolate).
Anyone come close?

Offlinemmm … I thought I was serious as well! My max per day would be 250g, but these days 150g or less is more likely. A dessert, cake, hot chocolate or a box of great truffles could seriously raise this, but I wouldn’t think above 500g at the outside. I think I’d be buzzing off my head and wouldn’t stand much chance of sleep!
Theobroma, and caffeine, are poisonous to humans as well as other animals, but the dose is very, very high. For caffeine, I read that it would be equivalent to 50 cups of coffee ALL AT ONCE. Maybe mocha is more dangerous then?
