I wonder, are you guys into something else than chocolate? Just curiousness, I simply wonder what kind of people 'we' are and our general preferences. I would expect some are into food in general, for example cheeses, but also coffee, wine, tea etc. Personally I was into whisky (single malts) a few years ago.

Funny, It was on my mind to ask such a question here at the forum, but I was afraid to break down the internet anonymity etiquette. Well, now that the ice is broken I might as well reveal my inner secrets. I`m into wine, photografy, mountainbiking and lego. I also have an interest for model railroading, but it is more of a latent interest. I have not practised for years. Since I`m a pastry chef, I`m also into cakes, pastry, desserts and good food in general. Ok? I will save the juicy stuff for Ricki Lake.

In some ways you're right lego, I don't ask people to reveal anything they are not comfortable with. Some of the members replied to a 'who are we'-sort of question earlier. I just wonder what goes with chocolate so to speak. For example I would guess that some of the members do care for coffee. Btw, I like photography and cakes/pastry/desserts as I did stay in Vienna for a reason πŸ˜‰ Hey, why not post any recipes?

I have many interests as well, some stronger than others. Some are planets, mythology, cultures, philosophy, and many more. I love heavy metal and anime as well, and I have a major interest in forensics. Weight training and nutrition/health are also important to me. Food is, of course, something which I enjoy studying in my free time; I like to know the histories of food (and foods), their cooking and nutritional properties, their applications, cultural significance, etc.

I am very fond of pizza, where I am a fundamentalist, and good cheese (the more they smell horse stables, the better). But nothing is anywhere my choc craziness (to the benefit of calories and my bank account). I think most drinks with ethanol stinks, so I prefer to drink water with the choc.

I like mountaineering, philosophy, writing, politics and economics, which basically means that I have too little time to do my PhD.[:D]

I also had a passion for model railroading, and I still have a layout stuffed behind a bookshelf. Several years since I used it though.

This sample is by no means statistically significant, but still it surprises me that no one has got any serious interest in other areas of food & drinks. But maybe we're just strange ...

I could get obsessed with olive oil ... I had a small collection at one point. But it scared me and I put a stop to it! I can see the site in my mind already ... name ideas welcome!

hmmm, nope no real food obsessions otherwise. i just love to eat what the locals do πŸ˜‰
just back from france and man do they lay it down when it comes to food!
i had a dark chocolate ice cream at one restaurant. wow! fancy and tasty and nice :-)

I'll put in my oar here. I was a chef for many years, having worked for the Wolfgang Puck Food Company as an executive chef and owning my own restaurants, so food was my greta passion for years. After a serious illness in '95, I heeded my doctor's advice and got interested in wine. What a revelation that has been! I'm now planning a wine/cigar/chocolate shop to open in March '05. For whatever reason - even thought I sometimes can't remember my own phone number, I have a near-eidetic memory for wine. I can easily recall every bottle I've tasted when I read, hear or recall the name, and can describe the flavor profile very accurately. Hey, they teach dogs to surf, so why not me and why not that one good trick?

It's become my greatest passion and it has carried over into my appreciation of every other beverages and foods. I taste things in chocolate that I never used to notice. Ditto cigars. I've developed a reputation around here as a salesman of obscure wines, which is stunning because I've always been the worst salesman on the planet. I get almost evangelical about wine...which I'm slipping toward here. Sorry. I'll stop now...

You don't have to stop for me. Great reading :-) Btw, have you got any recommendations on chocolate/cigar combinations? I smoke cigarillos at times.
