I managed to get some fantastic dried sour cherries from a temporary market in Edinburgh city centre. They were amazing enrobed in some Amedei Chuao but now that I’ve finished my original supply I can’t find any more at a reasonable price (found some in real foods but they are £27/kg, the ones I got at the market were more like £17/kg)
Does anyone know where I might get them(in the uk)? Glace cherries are easy to find but far too sweet and I would think that the cherries that come in a jar with syrup will be too wet to enrobe easily. Did a quick google but not much luck :(

Hi Chrissie,
I use dried morello cherries which are sour. They are very popular. You can get v small packs from Tesco’s …. or if you want them in bulk try Vantage House.

Thanks bala
I think the dried sour cherries and dried morello cherries are probably the same thing. I have also seen them labelled as dried tart cherries.
As luck would have it I was in Dundee for the day and stumbled across a fruits and nuts stall similar to the one I got them from in Edinburgh and at a similar price so got some for now.
Had a look at Vantage House but could only see liqueur soaked morello cherries or glace cherries. Have you tried using the liqueur soaked cherries? I would be worried about the moistness causing the chocolate to seize during dipping.

Hi Chrissis,
Vantage House do the dried cherries as well – they are not listed but they can get them for you. Cost is £12.95 + P&P/kg. They take about a week to arrive from time of order. Call Malcolm or Jo at Vantage House – they are usually v helpful.
I haven’t tried the soaked sherries as I would have the same worries as you.

Thanks for the tip, will give them a call when I need more. Sounds like a good price too.
