Hello. This is my first post having only just registered.. However I have lurked around this group for many months! Also, I must declare that I have a bias; I run a chocolate company in Cheshire.

Now to your question about the Criollo. Since the root stock does not have the disease resitance of say the Forestero, it is prone to diesease like Witches Broom. The Brazillian cocoa world (criollo) was hugely set back some years ago because of unctrolled spread of the fungus. So by its nature, the Criollo tree has its ups and downs! Sub speices however flourish and I guess that hybrids will continue to be an attaction to growers through the introduction of better quality root stock etc.

I have not seen any evidence of the pending wipe-out of Criollo though![:)]
