OfflineHi,
Does anyone know if it’s possible to check the status of the current cacao harvest – per country, per company or as a whole? It would be interesting to get some info based on the year’s weather and other factors, in order to get a feel for what we can expect from certain companies in 2006.
Thanks for a great site!

OfflineHi Snowbeast,
I get little updates from ED&F Man who are Cocoa traders – however they are a bit erratic.

OfflineI’m thinking along the lines of an analysis of the effect of weather conditions on beans – e.g. dry growing season vs unusually cool spring vs rain/high humidity during harvest. Since the criollo and porcelana beans seem to be so sensitive to environmental factors, I assume that slight variations could affect bean flavor while not necessarily ruining the crop.
Based on this info, it would be possible to make predictions for the chocolate made from the current harvest.
Gotta know way too much

OfflineHiya Snowbeast,
I know exactly what you mean. A lot of commodity traders do this to forecast what each countrt will be importing and exporting and to identify whether there is a net surplus of the commodity.
I am sure Man’s already do that sort of research. This is their site http://www.edfman.com/cocoa/main.html
