it’s in german, but here’s masur’s link list to “translation” tools ,)

in summary: the university of münster in germany has found a substance they’ve dubbed CocoHeal. it’s supposed to have a positive affect on health, promote the growth of skin cells and lower the risk of ulcers.

I got the english summery directly from http://www.provendis.info who distribute the work of the University of Münster:

“[CocoaHeal]
A new substance class with impressive
wound healing, proliferation
promoting and protective
functions from Cocoa
Invention
Scientists at the University of Münster, Germany,
have isolated and characterized a novel substance
class from Cocoa. CocoaHeal is capable of stimulating
growth and mitochondrial activity in keratinocytes
and hepatocytes without influencing classical cell
signalling via growth hormone receptors.
Furthermore CocoaHeal prevents Helicobacter pylori
from adhering to human stomach tissue thereby
minimizing risk of infection and gastric ulcers.
Commercial opportunity
The commercial opportunities of CocoaHeal are
manifold:
The skin regeneration and wound healing effect can
be utilized in the therapy or prophylaxis of decubitus
ulcers and other dermal indications like e.g. sun
burn. Also the highly profitable cosmetic market can
be addressed in terms of anti-aging products.
Via the anti-adhesive properties of CocoaHeal on
Helicobacter infections new therapy strategies for
gastric ulcer prophylaxis can be developed. Cocoa-
Heal can also serve as a novel compound in functional
food.
Current status
A German priority patent application for CocoaHeal
has been filed at the German Patent Office.
On behalf of the University of Münster, PROvendis
offers licences for CocoaHeal and the opportunity for
further co-development.
An invention of the University of Münster
Human stomach tissue with adhering H. pylori
CocoaHeal prevents H. pylori adhesion
TECHNOLOGY – OFFER
PROvendis GmbH is the patent licensing agency for the universities of
North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

If we speak about peroral intake, here is one quite recent review of the evidence together clarifying somee notions around flavonoids as well: http://www.pubmedcentral.gov/articlerender.fcgi?tool=pmcentrez&artid=1360667
Hopefully all of us takes at least 50g of dark chocolate daily, thereby reducing the short-term probability of cardiovascular disease by 10.5%.[;)] For sure I would take part in a long-term outcome test, too!
But if anyone knows any info on this novel compound CocoaHeal-at least to which larger group of molecules does it belong, please drop me a mail. Thanks in advance.

I think most of us need a test about taking 100g- 150g dark chocolate daily [:D]

I was in contact with Provendis. They say, that they don’t give any detailed information in the moment because of the current patent application. So we have to wait what exactly the CocoHeal Patent will be.

After a day of search in the appropriate databases I presume this must be either a special oligo-or polysaccharide or a kind of lectin.
