Nestlés next step to fine chocolate or one step away from fine chocolate for Marcolini:
http://www.nestle.com/MediaCenter/PressReleases/AllPressReleases/PMarcolini13Dec07.htm
It will be interesting to see what happens to Marcolinis chocolate in the next years.

December forth I discovered an article about Belgium Chooclates.
quote:
Pierre Marcolini needs 10 million euros to fund its growth plan.

Now we hear about the partnership with Neslé. Sounds like they want Marcolini to pump up the volume. Marketing guys from Nestlé is not a good sign.

I think this is the normal way of business and not only in chocolate industry. The future will bring up new fine chocolatiers.

Surely there must be some optimum size of the business to be in the full control of the final quality?

It’s not only size versus quality it is also about being independent and making your decisions as opposed to having to answer to investors who may have a very different idea of what “fine” chocolate is…
Personally we’ve been approached my many investors who wanted us to “stretch the brand” and open “30 shops in 3 years” and we told them to go elsewhere. It means we grow more slowly but no one tells us what to do and we set our own standards…
