An article called Sweet smell of snobbery has just been published by Salon. The sub-title of the article is: Like wine, luxury chocolate now has connoisseurs who tout its “mouthfeel” and “terroir.”

The good news: Seventypercent scored a direct link from the article.

The bad news: Seventypercent is being held up as an example of the “snobbery” and “pretension” which the author feels is invading the chocolate world.

For whatever reason, the author (Oliver Broudy), chooses to single out Alex Rast’s review of Michel Cluizel’s 1er Cru de Plantation Mangaro Lait for attention.

However, it’s nice to see that early responses from Salon’s readers are pro-fine chocolate and connoisseurship.

There is a place to comment the article at the site, so it’s not worth doing it here, (as if it was worth to comment those lines anywhere…let the author stay in his Matrix of junk food.) Sometimes negative advertisement also does a lot for the case, so I feel almost happy about it. On the other hand, it is really worth to see through practices of high end manufacturers-just to help ourselves decide.

It’s warming and amazing to see the strength of emotional comments to the article – does show overwhelming support to fine stuff appreciation. And real disappointment with Salon! – to the point of unsubscribing for someone.

I’ve not smelt any snobbery in 70% but maybe my sense of smell is not as acute as Oliver Broudy’s sense of taste.
Perhaps, for Mr Broudy’s benefit, Alex Rast should restrict any future reviews to [:)] or [V].

Ooooo I do love links in! I wonder how much (really) good chocolate the author has tried? Not much I guess.
