I'm sad to see this one lose it's #1 place because of a lesser review sending the average down (I know this could change as soon as your other reviewers get a chance to review it). Personally, I think it is much better than Puertomar and Puertofino (though the latter is a close second). Heck, Amedei's isn't even that good (though better than Puertomar), and is overpriced at best.

Unfortunately, a chocolate can only do so much to influence its rating, so therefore, personal taste of the reviewer is what it must rely upon. I would have supplied a review of this sooner - based on my first bars - but recent batches have caused me to withhold it. If you read in earlier posts, several of us have experienced "off flavors," such as "diesel" and "potting soil," and so were turned off to this bar. However, I recently tasted a newer batch and it was back to the natural gentleness as before.

In general, I think I would have to say that I prefer Amedei's Porcelana a bit more than Domori's due to the mercurial nature of Domori's. Amedei's has been a bit more reliable flavor-wise and has not suffered the same dramatic flavor degradation and fluctuations that Domori's has. As a result, if I were to purchase a Porcelena with the expectations of tasting the purity of this bean, then I would opt for Amedei's simply because of the consistency. However, if Domori's proved to be more consistent batch after batch, then my attention would sway back to Domori. But until I see that day again, I'll just have to taste Domori's Porcelana with trepidation and high hopes for a good bar.

I agree that the Domori Porcelana is just way too unpredictable to consistently rank among the best. The last time I tasted it I swear it was like smoked beef. Really kind of unpleasant and very different from other tastings....

Just tried a bar from a new batch we just got delivered before Christmas, direct from Domori. Seems a lot better and no sign of petroleum or soil notes, throughout the bar. The roast seems a little strong, but otherwise back on form and Domori Porcelana as we know it should be. Let's hope it stays that way!

For reference, the batch no. is L 31905, expiry date 31/05/07.

Thank goodness. I recently finished a bar I acquired this summer, and it was fine too.
