Definitely exotic in flavor, but now I can't seem to eat this without tasting dirt/earthworm castings. Yuck. 😛

That's interesting because as it was mentioned in other threads, numerous members have tasted "potting soil" in the Porcelana.

Well, it was interesting - my dad was in town from out of state and he noticed it too. But the next morning, I tasted it again and . . . no dirt flavor - it was good again. It seemed strange that we would both taste the earthiness of it at one point, and the next day not. Either way, I don't know that I will ever taste it again because of this fact.

Funny thing is, I am tasting Domori's Blend No. 1 right now, and it too has some earthy qualities that are turning me off. They must have some real problems there, because this is not always the case with their chocolate! The last time I had Blend No. 1 (which was the first time), it was awesome stuff! I just had some Porcelana today, and it was heaven! ARGH!!!

A chocolate's flavor can be affected by several outside factors that may have no direct correlation to the chocolate itself. For example, time of day and residual flavors from previously eaten foods will impact overall flavor dramatically, so it is advised to taste chocolate on a clean palate.

Blend No. 1 was never intended to possess the same flavor profile year after year. The recipe - i.e. the beans used, harvests, ratios, etc. - changes, so the Blend No. 1 you taste today is not the same Blend No. 1 from last year or the year before. Nor will it be the same next year. I have one from two years ago (still!) and I just got a new one. Older batches have lecithin and vanilla, but newer ones do not. I cannot wait for a side-by-side.
