The reviews are a great resource being as in depth as most are. I do think, though, that you could add recommendations for other chocolates in the reviews. A kind of “If you like this, then try…”. Now I realize that most chocolate have their own distinct taste, but you could direct people toward more dry bars or more fruity bars or more tangy bars. I dunno. Just a thought.

Another good idea is to recommend bars that taste completely different than the one being reviewed. This way, people could get both bars and conduct their own taste tests to see the differences in the chocolate themselves.

Perhaps we need to set up some search facility on these attributes? I like the recommendation idea as well, just have to think of a way to implement it. Maybe user recommendations would be the way to go?

Also I think we will do some features that link chocolates together, maybe some ‘chocolate journeys’ to follow.

Thanks for the ideas.

The search function is great. I just punch in a key word, such as earthy, and I found all of the reviews with that word AND any discussion of that word.

Another idea that I thought would be neat… Similar to the top ten bar thing, average out the scores of the different brands and get the top five brands. This would be slightly unfair, though, since there isn’t a review of every bar by every company. Just a thought.

I have been thinking along those lines – an average for a brand – just not sure how to structure it yet.

I also feel the top ten is showing the strain as the division between bars in the top twenty or so is so fine. I’m thinking it should be recent reviews only (within a year), as the quality of each chocolate will vary with time.

Glad you like the search. Still sorting the behind the scenes technology out though – the indexing failed on the forum, which luckily has its own searh feature. Also the index is probably out of date by now – need to run another one.
