Well, it all boils down to what you like and what’s perceived in your eyes as a good chocolate for a good value. But would you buy Marcolini bars more often if they were cheaper? Or does the price deter you completely from the chocolate?

i just can’t seem to make up my mind ;) because i just can’t keep away from the more expensive domori bars.
when it comes to marcolini i don’t think i would buy more if it were cheaper. cluizel is not that expensive and i hardly if ever buy any. valrhona is the price of cluizel and i buy it on a regular basis.
so, there you have it.
availability also has something to do with selecting chocolate. i want to have tried many things at least once. ordering can be exciting with the waiting and all and i guess if i could get marcolini here in munich i would try it every now and then. in the end it would rank above cluizel and around valrhona in my taste. but not so much that i would buy it as often as valrhona.
the outcome? price does not influence my choice (at least i don’t think so).

My fave chocolate is Domori too, the Porcelana, which is such a balanced chocolate, dark and strong, but also smooth and subtle, and with great depth of flavour. I can only buy that by mail order though, which is not nearly so satisfying as browsing round a decent shop.

I bought a bar of Fleur de Cacao, by Marcolini, at Lancer Square on Thursday, ate half for lunch, and managed to eke the rest of it out til yesterday. Ok, it’s expensive, but I love it, & rate it more highly than Valrhona & Cluziel – with the exception of Los Ancones. I like the fact that Marcolini sources and makes his own chocolate, and hope that the fact that he pays more than twice as much as the major players for the beans means that the plantation workers a better wage. Naive, maybe, but a happy thought.
