I may soon be moving to Berlin to work, does anyone happen to know of any good chocolate shops out there?
Or could anyone recommend any good German chocolate that might be readily available out there?

Yes i heard about that place. Holgar, the guy who owns the place is opening chocolate bar/cafe next door to it. Sounds cool.

Thanks for the tip Alex.

Int’veld’s web site was a nice visit. Quite impressive sortiment, although they lack key Amedei bars and the whole Valrhona (I don’t cry over Valrhona, though) sortiment. Otherwise impressive. It reminded me quite much of Xocolat in Vienna. Well, Berlin is only a cheap (but long!) bus trip away from Scandinavia where I am currently living – but this shop makes it tempting to make a trip! The café sounds especially tempting. I find it so disappointing that no place seems to serve tastier hot chocolate than myself (except Demel in Vienna). May be times are changing?

LoneLy,

i assume the key amedei you are talking about is porcelana, eh? :-)
they’ve got it in munich!

can’t say for certain that in’t veld has all his products on his site. could tell you more after visiting to see for myself.

alex h,

You’re right, I should mean Porcelana. I simply didn’t take a close enough look the first time. I thought they’d missed out the single estates, but I found them after all. I’m quite spoiled on Amedei as my local shop have all the sortiment in stock. Quite impressive for little Norway I think! In fact I found too much of interest, sadly thinking about the budget for the trip.

As for the hot chocolate I am more than happy to learn about places and recipes – in Berlin as well as Munich (and other German cities if you have some clues).

LoneLy,

i’ve now heard from a friend in berlin that in’t veld stocks more than he posts on his online catalog. he apparently even has a clear chocolate! and says you’ve got to be really serious about chocolate to like it. hmmm, doesn’t arouse any interest here… was wondering, though, what it could possibly be made of!?

budget is a big problem. i am learning to curb my spending here a bit. helpful that my need for chocolate is going down as the quality goes up! in the end i hope it kind of levels out when compared to the amount of cheaper chocolate i used to consume.

i will have to go and check out the name of the hot chocolate i mentioned. it comes in little silver pouches or cans and consists of small round balls of chocolate. maybe you know it already. might take a bit to get the name.

i’ve heard munich has a cafe that serves somewhere around 30 different types of hot chocolate. will look into that for you as well.

alex h,

Seems like I have to book my ticket … can’t say I’ve heard of the hot chocolate stuff. I discovered hot chocoloate after my stay in Vienna when I got into chocolate in general. I have tried various cocoa powder (perefer Slitti), but real hot chocolate is certainly better. I don’t hesitate trying my favorite bars. Some might say it is waste of money or even barbaric to do so, but it has resulted in lots of heavenly mugs.
