finally! we now have two excellent chocolate shops in munich. both with a good stock of domori (very new this). and one with amedei as well. both sell coffee and truffles and one’s got good ice cream. really nice places to visit and sip an espresso. i am sure both can take it up with in’t veld in berlin, but have to see for myself. will be going there in october.
the shops:

You don’t make it less tempting to pay Munich a visit – or Germany in general ;-)

see? :-D
munich is not really in the swing of things when it comes to real chocolate, but things might change with supply growing. i sure hope so. these two shops really deserve mention.
i don’t have to rely on mail order any longer and am really happy about that. they have domoris madagascar bar (delicious, with a nice taste of cashew) and even kashaya.
i hear you can’t get amedei’s porcelana at in’t veld, but we’ve got it here! :-D
really nice as well is the fact that one of the shops is asking me for advice! imagine that!
u r still welcome any time you come to town, lone.
btw, have you tried kashaya in hot chocolate? or in any other food? i wonder what all can be done with this ingredient…

Do any of them offer the organic line?

the ones i have checked don’t, no. unfortunately not.
will check the last shop tomorrow and see.
will also write domori and ask about locations around here that might carry it.
had some in berlin though. but only the 70%, which was quite intense. you do know that it runs under the name chacao (www.chacao.com)?

yes! as you can see from my other posts we now have domori’s organic in munich. so the city is well worth a trip ;-)
i’ve got three shops downtown that cover my immediate (domori) needs and i do my rounds every saturday to empty out my heavy wallet (heavy?! yeah, right!)

Wow! I didn’t know there was a Chacao website … well spotted. I found the 100% too strong (maybe I am just a wimp!) We have the 70% here and will have it in the shop very soon (or maybe it’s there already). Didn’t try it yet but will let you know.

the site has the same info as the pamphlet that comes (or used to come) with the bars.
you had mentioned somewhere that the 100 is quite strong, so i was maybe just well-prepared for the “worst” ;-)
or maybe i have just had so much 100% that i am getting used to it.
i think this 100 is my favorite of all.
the other two bars taste quite similar, but i am not the patient type when i get new chocolate, so lines do blur.

and we’ve got another shop called ‘chocolate & more’. in fact, this one has been around for a while now. they’ve got domori, amedei, chocovic, valrhona, cluizel and chacao. they supply me with my chacao and domori crus.
due to their location (i think), they can’t quite compete with the other two when it comes to price, but definitively when it comes to selection. and the staff is always friendly. but that’s the case with the other two as well.

:) it’s almost as if munich has really developed a taste for good chocolate ;)
just yesterday i overheard a conversation between a customer and a shopowner. the customer had heard about some special italian chocolate (domori and amedei have been in the newspapers here) and wanted to buy some. when he found out that both companies hardly make milk chocolate, he was shocked and tried to figure out whether he should have a go at some of the dark stuff. reminds me of me when i first encountered valrhona and only wanted to try their milk :)
but that starts the ball rolling.

Alex, I’m visiting Munich I the first week of April, and I wonder whether you know any other chocolate stores in Munich apart from the ones you already mentioned which are really worth visiting. Perhaps some department stores or any Special (like the Spanish week where you bought some Rovira). I would be really grateful for your help. Thanks in advance.

hi mario,
the three main shops i mentioned above. in the mean time their selections have grown. we now have el rey, scharffen berger, pralus and slitti in munich, yet unfortunately no longer any rovira bars.
two other places you might want to look into are käfer delikatessen and there’s another shop i haven’t seen yet myself downtown. will have a look and tell you more later.
käfer is too posh a shop for my taste, but they used to have rovira. now they’ve got a good selection of slitti and munich’s finest assortment of amedei (fairly priced).
what’s still missing here? well, i can hardly think of anything. it’d be nice to have some marcolini, but getting by with what’s on offer is no problem :-) i am proof of that.
for valrhona’s plantation bars you’ll get the best price at karstadt.
say, can you still get your hands on hacienda san jose canoabo? would you perhaps be interested in sharing it if so?
send me an email and maybe we can get together when you come down.

harrumph, i think munich is beginning to fall off the map :-/
prices here have suddenly out of the blue skyrocketed, going up by around one euro per bar (domori and amedei) or even more.
what is the world coming to?! Thank god this is “only” in some shops. Others are still keeping prices at a sane level.
that other shop i mentioned in my last post I don’t know the name of. But it is quite exclusive and caters to a wealthy clientel. They’ve mainly got Rovira and Domori.
Saw my first Domori Quantum up close too :-)

I’d expect many venezuelan products to show similiar price increases. They had a pretty wet spring, full of flooding.

OK, that would help explain it. Seems it not just the stores increasing the prices, but Domori themselves.

Quite unpleasant. Is it happening anywhere else? We don’t have any price rise here so far, but there are bad signs – all the usual places are very low on stock and don’t seems to hurry up to restock..

You also have to consider that summer is approaching.
