For the periods of dryness, the tropical forest was withdrawn until not to form but forest small islands more thus supporting the differentiation of populations and the disappearance of some others.
During wet phases, the forests extended again starting from these refuges.
One of these zones was identified inter alia in the south of the French Guiana.
