Who are we?

Seventypercent.com is a chocolate appreciation site created and run by chocolate enthusiasts with more time than sense and a fairly harmless addiction. Except for our online shop the site is not a commercial operation - profits from the shop will go towards the maintenance of the site.

The site is mostly the result of the chocolate induced ravings of Martin Christy, a musician and web programmer unable to get through the day without a dose of the good stuff, and is designed and supported by understanding colleagues.

Our history

Seventypercent.com first went properly live in February 2003, though we’d been running prototypes for a few months before. Getting the site up has been a long journey dating back to 1999 when the idea first germinated and involved fitting development of the site around real life over the next few years.

We’d like to thank the patience and forbearance (and in many cases conversion) of friends and family during the site development - don’t expect it to get any better!

Our qualifications …

Put simply, none! At least not in any culinary or chocolate terms. We just know what we like and have learned to appreciate it’s production, history and variety. Chocolate is ancient, it is also new. It’s nuances are being rediscovered, new levels of finesse are being explored. We’re just happy to be involved and to have created the first fully comprehensive guide to fine chocolate on the web.

Our shop

If you live in the UK but outside London, really good fine chocolate is a rare commodity.Even in London there are only a handful of suppliers. We started our online shop to give deprived chocolate fans a chance to get hold of the best and rarest chocolate. Our range was modest to begin with, but has grown as our trade has grown. The shop will help support the development and maintenance of the web site, and our habits.
