'The famous Belgian chocolate'

Leonidas – Dark

Presumably the chocolate used to coat Leonidas’ pralines (where it might be better suited balanced against other flavours) this makes an ok eat, but on the whole is rather too bitter, though with a moment of saving grace during the melt.

Thin aroma that builds into yeasty overtones. Good looking on the outside, on breaking the chocolate is rough with some bubbling. Initially has a pleasant melt, but on biting there’s a distinct ‘candy’ flavour around, along with a slight mustiness. This passes for a few seconds into a happy moment of vanilla ice cream and barley sugar – rather like eating a chocolate brownie, before turning to strong burnt coffee and milk. Length is strong and bitter with a little waxiness, and there is a slight sense of ‘taintedness’ throughout the whole experience.

The 40% sugar in this bar doesn’t hide the bitterness, and vanilla would have helped. Edible, but not to be sought out – though some may have a taste for it.
